This week I figured I’d test my video rig by shooting a quick YouTube video update of the Phlex on Rails course.
The tl;dr: I’ve roughed out the beginning and end of the course to give people a better idea of the starting point and how far we’ll push Phlex, which is building a Rails app out of 100% Phlex components.
Code snippets
As I build this website out and work on other projects, I’ll be sharing little blurbs of source code on here.
This week I shared a Paywall Component and how to modify links in markdown files with Markdown Rails to inject referral codes.
The video rig
It’s been fun trying to figure out how to set up a laptop and camera in the middle of nowhere to shoot a video course. More on that in a future article, but here’s an image of the setup.
It’s still evolving. This week I learned a lavalier microphone isn’t really that good for screen sharing, so I ordered a small condenser microphone to use with my laptop, which should improve the audio quality.
Next week
Next week I’ll be busy working on a lot of different things.
More plumbing
I need to implement a way for people who have pre-ordered to unlock the course content.
Draft more video scripts and spin up a repo
I’ve been using various code samples for some of my draft work and it feels a bit scattered. I’m going to start committing code to a GitHub repo and reference that from the course.
39 pre-order slots remaining
I want to keep the initial batch of people I correspond with over email to make developing this course more personal. If you’re working with Phlex or thinking about it for a project, consider pre-ordering the Phlex course so you can be a part of developing the curriculum.
